Introducing New Links in Digital Editions

VW 182 - Keeper Edition with New Links

One of the most popular questions we hear from readers of Video Watchdog is, "Where can I find... ?" referring to a film, book or CD reviewed within the pages.

In the early days of mail order, before the internet (remember when?), we had a Sources column that attempted to give the snail-mail order addresses of most of the companies with products featured in each issue. Then when the internet became popular, we tried to include the www addresses as well. But even then, readers were forced to bring the magazine to the computer and type in sometimes very unwieldy internet addresses.

Links highlighted in issue 182

Now, we've made it easy. Just click on the highlighted film title on the page, and you are taken to a website where the title is available. On iOS devices the links are invisible, but they are there! I kind of like the clean invisible links. More surprising!

We hope you will like this feature. If you do, we'll update all of them! We are just testing it out first with the Keeper version and app versions of issue 182. Not everything has a link, but most titles do.

If you already own issue 182, updates are free. On tablets you may see a push notification letting you know there is an update. Download it now or later if you like. If you don't own issue 182 yet, head over to the Keepers area on the website and Unlock it now, or get it free on your mobile device. It's going to disappear soon!

You can find all of the Digital Editions in the Library. We will have an update trail for each edition that is updated in that area eventually. For now, please subscribe to this blog so you will know when something changes.

Any thoughts? Is it easy to use? Leave a comment and let me know. We'll do more!

  2. I've had a couple of testers (plus myself!) who had an "XML file missing" error when using an iPhone or iPad. Here's how to fix it.

Delete the app (long press on app, click the x). Restart your device. Download the app again. Fixed.

Sorry about that! You'll be able to restore your purchases once the app is downloaded.

  3. Restarting may not be necessary, unless you are having trouble on Android devices. They love a restart.
